In the year 1947 the Singh family was at the death’s door of communal
riot caused at the time of partition of India. The Milkha Singh was a boy of twelve
only. Milkha’s parents and siblings were killed before his eyes. Before dying “Bhaag
Milkha Bhaag”- (Ran Milkha run) was the last word of Milkha’s father. Milkha
then started running to save his own life. He continued running through the
rough way of life and thus passed away his teen age and youth. One day he
reached at the track of Olympic Game. Such is the biographical history of the
gold medalist of Asian Games & Commonwealth Games, the living legend of
India, Milkha Singh. Directed by Rakeysh Omprokash Mehra, “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”
was named according to the last word of Milkha’s father.
It is a real story of rough and tough life of Milkha Singh. He
lost his everything at his twelve. He had no shelter, no food. The situation
leaded him to engage different type of crimes. He was almost drowning. But with
a strong desire to come back, Milkha defeated darkness and reached to the light
of success by a hard struggle.
Rakeysh Omprokash Mehra, director of “Rang De Basanti” has picked
up almost every incidents of Milkha’s life in his new movie “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”
and has pictured those without any change or modification.
“Bhaag Milkha bhaag” was starred by promising director, producer,
actor and singer Farhan Akhtar. In this movie Farhan Akhtar presented himself
in a different look other than conventional heroic image and attracted the viewers.
To be the real Milkha Singh, Farhan Akhtar had totally changed himself both in outlook
and style. He also learned Panjabi language. In the movie he looked like a real
athlete. His running in the track also seemed real, not artificial.

Even Milkha Singh himself praised Farhan Akhtar for his realistic
acting. Milkha Singh, now at his age of 77, says “Nobody can say that Farhan is
not the real Milkha. He has imitated my every gesture and posture. It seems
that I am watching myself in the screen.”
Sonam Kapoor acted as wife of Milkha Singh and captain of Indian volleyball
team Nirmol Kaor. Another main attraction of the movie was famous actor Prakash
Raj, who took a positive role for the first time in Bollywood movie. Yograj Singh,
father of cricketer Yuvraj Singh, acted as coach of Milkha Shingh.
